Local survivors of child sexual abuse will benefit from provincial funding announced to High Prairie and Metis organizations.
The High Prairie and Area Prevention of Family Violence Association and the provincial Métis Settlements General Council were among seven organizations that will share $1.7 million from the Government of Alberta so survivors can get specialized services and the healing supports they need.
“Violence and abuse in any form are unacceptable,” Human Resources Minister Irfan Sabir said in a news release June 16.
“We will continue to support and work with our community partners to stop child sexual abuse and exploitation from happening.
“It is a priority to ensure that all survivors have a place to turn for help,” he concluded.
For both local organizations, a community action plan will be created to provide a coordinated approach to supporting individuals experiencing family vio- lence.
Community service providers will be brought together to develop a local model to provide a continuum of services in alignment with the provincial framework.
Community plans will focus on awareness, prevention, intervention, outreach and enforcement services.
East Prairie, Gift Lake and Peavine Metis Settlements are three of the eight settlements in Alberta.
