Northland School Division No. 61 is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Lemay as principal of Grouard Northland School.
Lemay has accumulated a wealth of experience while working for Northland. For the past eight years, she served as principal and teacher at Hillview School in the East Prairie Metis Settlement.
Lemay says she is looking forward to a new challenge at Grouard Northland School.
“Although leaving my current assignment is bittersweet, I believe everyone should step out of their comfort zone in order to experience growth and new adventures,” says Lemay. “I am really looking forward to getting to know the students, families and staff and working with them to continue to strengthen literacy and community.”
Lemay’s education journey began in 2000 with Holy Family Catholic Regional Division No. 37. She taught at Good Shepherd School and at St. Andrew’s School in High Prairie where she coordinated the school’s Alberta Initiative for School Improvement project Healthy Minds and Bodies for Student Success. After High Prairie, Lemay taught at Driftpile Community School for six years.
She has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Alberta and is working toward completing the Elementary Education Master’s Online Program through the U of A.
