The High Prairie Outlaws lost 67-0 to Grande Prairie Norseman on Sept. 7 in their first road game in the Peace Country Bantam Football League.
“They never give up and they keep working hard the whole game,” head coach Tom Duchesneau says.
“We even got comments from coaches from the other team who were impressed by our players who never gave up.”
The Norsemen were simply a much stronger team with more experience.
“Despite the score being lopsided, it was an exciting game,” Duchesneau says. “The other team was able to capitalize on any breakdowns in our play.”
New to the league, Duchesneau and Outlaws realize they need to learn a lot before the team becomes competitive.
“I’m not upset with the score, the score will look after itself when we get more experience,” Duchesneau says.
“Most important thing is that the players are having fun and we want to give them an opportunity to learn and play another sport.”
The Outlaws played the Sexsmith Shamrocks Sept. 17. It was the second of three home games this season. The Outlaws close out the home schedule against the Grande Prairie Broncos on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.
The Outlaws are supported by major sponsors The Promo Store and Fountain Tire along with other support from High Prairie Oilmen’s Association, Nalco Champion, Sunstone Energy and Burcat Welding.
Players are from High Prairie Elementary School, Prairie River Junior High School and St. Andrew’s Catholic School.
