Peace River School Division has awarded its 2024 Student Teacher Bursary to three recipients.
Emma Jeffs, Elizabeth Chupka and Melissa Sidoroff were announced the recipients in a news release dated Oct. 1.
All three graduated from Peace River High School.
The bursary was created to attract aspiring teachers to work in PRSD schools and communities by providing financial assistance with a commitment to return to the school division to teach.
Jeffs and Chupka have entered their third year of university this fall and will each receive a total of $6,000 over two years.
Sidoroff is in her final year of university and will receive $3,000.
“We can’t wait to have them back in our classrooms upon their graduation,” the news release states.
Applicants are required to write a compelling and well-crafted application essay showcasing their passion for teaching and commitment to northern communities in the school division.
Recipients are committed to PRSD for three years of full-time employment in exchange for two years of bursary funding.
A recipient who receives only one year of funding is committed to two years of full-time employment.
