Sucker Creek First Nation opened its Book Box July 19 in conjunction with the Serenity Park grand opening. The Book Box invites anyone to “Take a Book, Trade a Book, Read a Book” and was initiated by the band’s education department to promote reading. The project received full support of the band, which takes every opportunity to promote literacy. Councillor Michelle Willier, who also serves as education co-ordinator, was instrumental in seeing the project to fruition. Standing, left-right, are Sucker Creek Tiny Tot Princess Karissa Calliou, 5, with some books; Sucker Creek Princess Delany Lauck, and High Prairie Elks Pro Rodeo Queen candidate Reann Cardinal. Sitting is Karma Badger, 9, who painted the Book Box. Missing is Sucker Creek Junior Princess Maddison Giroux.
