“As I write this the church is in the season of Advent, a time of preparation for Christ’s first Advent, Christ’s birth 2,000+ years ago, and his second Advent when Christ returns for those who are His. Our society prepares for Christmas with shopping, putting up decorations, baking and the like, which we all participate in. On a personal level, preparations for Christ’s coming includes anticipating what Christmas is really all about; celebrating the fact that God came to earth as a human child to rescue us. Without that first Advent [Christmas] we would all be destined for eternal separation from God in a place of torment. But Christ did come, and He grew up to live the perfect life that we cannot, and then pay the price for all our sin on the cross. Because He fulfilled that assignment we can look forward to His second Advent with joy, assured of an eternal destiny with Christ in a place there is no more crying or sorrow or pain or death; but rather peace, joy, and contentment in the presence of a loving God forever.”
