The HOSTS team ran the Hunger Awareness Week contest in late September to help the High Prairie and District Food Bank. At each of the schools HOSTS serves, staff asked students to help raise hunger awareness and take part in a contest by handing in donations to the local food bank. HOSTS offered the two junior high classes at St. Andrew’s School and Prairie River Junior High School, plus the two elementary classes at St. Andrew’s and High Prairie Elementary School, that donated the most items, a pizza party. The contest was so successful that on the second day of the five-day challenge the food bank had to pick up donations from St. Andrew’s because so many donations poured in. The contest resulted in 1,406 1/2 pounds of food collected. Freson Bros. partnered with HOSTS and helped cover the costs of some of the pizzas.
