The E.W. Pratt Chargers, of High Prairie, won the men’s side in the High Prairie School Division senior high volleyball divisional championship tournament Nov. 2 in High Prairie.
The Chargers edged the Slave Lake Roland Michener Rams 25-19, 25-19 in an intense final of the seven-team tournament played at Pratt, Prairie River Junior High and St. Andrew’s schools.
Pratt defeated the Slave Lake St. Francis Falcons in the semifinals to reach the final.
The Chargers were perfect in their pool after they defeated Slave Lake Christian Academy and the Kinuso Knights.
For the Chargers, the winning weekend was a warm-up for the Northwest Zone 2A men’s championship tournament set for Nov. 15-16 at Wabasca.
The Peace River Glenmary Saints host the provincial tournament Nov. 21-23.
“The Chargers want to build on a strong season into the zone tournament,” athletic director Larkin Stokes says.
“We were impressed by the level of play of the Chargers.”
During the season, the Chargers finished first at a tournament in Drayton Valley, third at a tournament in Fairview and first on the B side at a tournament in Sexsmith. A top three finish at each tournament bodes well for the impending zone challenge.
The Chargers thank TC Energy for supporting the school, Stokes notes.
