High Prairie’s $1.55 million 50th Street capital upgrade will continue as scheduled despite coming in over budget.
Town council decided unanimously at its meeting June 14 to take the necessary money from its surplus to complete the project.
Council originally allocated $1.379 million in its 2016 capital budget but the lowest tender came in $176,667 over budget. Council was left with deciding whether to take the money from surplus or perhaps cancel the St. Andrew’s one-way street project. The latter option was something council wanted no part of.
Public Works Supt. Vern Walker proposed the two options, saying he would rather complete both projects. Council agreed with little discussion.
