The High Prairie Renegades are still winless but they did chalk up their first point of the high school football season.
The home team scored a single point early in the fourth quarter as the Renegades fell 54-1 to the Valleyview Hillside Cougars Sept. 19 in Mighty Peace Football Conferecne play.
It was their third game of the season.
“Attitudes of the players remain positive,” says head coach William Stalenhoef.
“I’m trying to keep everyone in high spirits, so it’s more fun for the players.”
As players continue to learn the game, he is optimistic about the balance of the season.
“Some good things will happen,” Stalenhoef says. “If everyone plays their position, we can keep the games close.”
Dustin Chalifoux was given the green light by the head coach to start the game as quarterback against the Peace-Wapiti Academy Titans in Grande Prairie on Sept. 23.
Play was suspended for about 40 minutes against Valleyview when Renegade player Brandon Bissell went down with an injury with 4:12 left in the third quarter.
“He had muscle and tissue damage in his neck,” Stalenhoef says.
Paramedics and the ambulance took him to hospital and he was later released. He is recovering at home.
