The High Prairie Renegades high school football team is eager to hit the win column in its third season in the Mighty Peace Football Conference.
“It would be great to see the team win a game this season,” says Trevor Jaycox, who became the head coach after serving as an assistant last season.
“We have been making progress and the score of each game has been getting closer and this will continue as the team grows and the players keep training and playing hard.”
Coaches want the Renegades to have fun and to learn, win or lose.
“Football is a life lesson, the guys will learn that with hard work and dedication will produce a more positive outcome which is the bigger picture we want them to see,” Jaycox says.
Still building the program, the team continues to persevere.
“The Renegades have the ability to compete with the other teams in the league and put up a great match,” Jaycox says.
“Even with the other teams being more experienced, we have the size and athleticism, the players are working hard and it will pay off.”
Several players have stepped up with experience and commitment.
“All I can say and want to say about our strengths is the team’s resiliency,” Jaycox says.
“Players aren’t giving up, no matter what, they hit the field ready to play or practise and have the right attitude.
“Experience can be a great strength, but in my opinion, having a big heart and that drive to not give up is the greatest thing a team can have.”
Each player on the team has a valuable role to play.
“We have many great leaders and key players on the team and everyone has a place and role on the Renegades,” Jaycox says.
“Some guys make big hits, great catches, awesome throws or score touchdowns; the team works and plays as a unit.”
“Guys go out and play when others get banged up and bruised, giving those players a break and others are great at keeping the team pumped up and positive.”
Players and coaches are working together to strive for success.
“If the coaching staff and players have the same goals and get used to working as a unit, it will only make things better for everyone and so far we are seeing great improvements from everyone,” Jaycox says.
He says the future of football looks promising in High Prairie.
“I am very proud of the players; they have come a long way and are improving very fast,” Jaycox says.
“Football is a tough program to start up and it takes hard work and dedication.
“Talking with other coaches, it seems that people are impressed in the rate we are moving forward in the league.”
He predicts football will steadily improve and grow and the Renegades will represent High Prairie well now and in the future.
