Iver Paulino’s 16 points led the High Prairie St. Andrew’s Saints to a 39-28 win in their opening game in the Smoky River Junior High School Basketball League Boy’s Division Nov. 30.
Meanwhile, the Kinuso Knights fell to 0-2 to start their season but have put up a tough battle in each contest.
The Saints led throughout the contest, 9-6 after one quarter and 14-10 at the half. The third quarter was the difference as the Saints outgunned the Knights 17-7 to take a commanding 31-17 lead. The Knights won the fourth quarter 11-8 but it was far too little, too late.
Paulino scored five points in the first and second quarters and appeared happy to pass to other players to get them involved. Christian Vance added eight points for the Saints and Andres Scarborough seven. Chase Laughlin and Keenan Price each scored four points to complete the scoring.
The Knights received scoring from only three players. Damien Mc- Laughlin scored a team-high 16, the same as Paulino’s 16. Isaiah New added 10 points and Ethan Wedmid two for the Knights.
The teams renew their rivalry Dec. 7 at Kinuso. The Saints have a makeup game Dec. 12 at home against Donnelly G.P. Vanier.
