Alberta Forestry and Parks Minister Todd Loewen invites seniors 65 and over to take advantage of a special discount to camp at selected Alberta Parks in 2025.
Reservations open Jan. 31 for the camping season that starts May 1, says a government news release dated Jan. 17.
A 25 per cent discount is available at 142 campgrounds, including Winagami Lake between High Prairie and McLennan, Hilliard’s Bay east of High Prairie, Devonshire South north of Slave Lake, Queen Elizabeth north of Grimshaw, and Williamson and Young’s Point west of Valleyview.
“This new discount ensures seniors can more easily discover the parks that make Alberta so extraordinary,” Loewen says.
“By reducing costs and improving access, we’re empowering seniors to connect with nature and explore the diverse beauty of our province.”
Seniors, Community and Social Services Minister Jason Nixon says the discount is a priority for government.
“I’m pleased to see our government continue to follow through on our promise to introduce a senors’ discount,” Nixon says.
“This will make it easier for seniors to enjoy Alberta’s beautiful landscapes.”
The discount applies to 6,400 campsites for individual, equestrian and walk-in tenting, along with other popular camping experiences.
Seniors will have access sites that offer stunning, quieter experiences in less-crowded settings, allowing them to explore new areas without the pressure of fully booked campsites.
Other types of camping, such as group, comfort and backcountry are not eligible for the discount.
To receive the discount, eligible seniors must be the camping permit holder, have valid identification and be part of the camping party for the entire stay.
