An application from the Lakeland Eagles to join the NPHL for the 2016-17 season was denied by the league’s teams April 24.
Eagles’ president George Gladue declined to comment on the decision after being informed April 26, adding he may have a statement at a later date.
“If the Lakeland Eagles wish to do so, they will be asked to submit an application for the 2017-18 season at the NPHL’s spring meeting in 2017,” says NPHL president Jack McAvoy.
“Lakeland will again be advised to complete their application according to all rules set out in the NPHL Constitution.”
The Eagles applied to join the league after the spring meeting April 2. The NPHL Constitution states new teams can only apply at the spring meeting for entry into the league the following season.
However, a clause in the NPHL Constitution also allows for a special meeting to be called to discuss any issue if the teams agree to do so by a majority vote. The Eagles applied by submitting letters and an executive list to the NPHL on April 13. The information was distributed to member teams for a vote.
The request to call the meeting to deal with the application was denied.
The Valleyview Jets, who were accepted into the league at the spring meeting, were not allowed to vote as they are on probation.
Results of the vote were not disclosed.
