Artwork from St. Andrew’s School and E.W. Pratt High School will be displayed during two exhibits at the High Prairie and District Museum before the end of June.
St. Andrew’s Grade 6 students will display their work from May 18-31 while Pratt’s display is from June 2-16.
Museum curator Darlene Adams is pleased to offer a chance for students to display their work.
“We want to encourage the arts in the community and give [students] a place to display their work, she says.
The museum’s mission statement reiterates the goal: The High Prairie and District Museum will be a primary community centre for the celebration of history, art and culture. We will foster community engagement and be a catalyst for supporting, developing and sustaining community values, social responsibility and environmental awareness.”
St. Andrew’s art teacher Fran Caudron brought her art students to the museum May 17 to learn how to set up the display. Summer student Courtney Lacoste instructed the students.
“Every art museum you go into is well thought out,” said Lacoste.
“You want to be in line with how high humans are,” she explained regarding how high each exhibit should be.
Students helped set up displays from the 20-plus students. Each student completed several drawings as part of their exhibit.
Martha Bilton teaches high school art and foods at Pratt. They will hold an opening on June 2 from 2-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Snacks and appetizers will be provided by the foods class.
Tentatively planned is a donation jar for Fort McMurray fire victims.
More details will be announced on the Pratt show later.
The museum is open for public viewing for both displays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 pm. Saturday.
