Joussard School – Student finds spring’s first caterpillar

by | Apr 30, 2018 | Schools

Damiana Willier reports the news this week from Joussard School.

Damiana Willier
Joussard Reporter

Hello from Joussard School, this is Damiana Willier bringing you our news once again. We are loving the sunshine and the fact the snow is finally disappearing!

Our kindergarten students are all so excited today as the photographer is in to do the students’ graduation pictures. It makes them feel so very grown up as they put on a graduation cap and gown. Their teacher was very careful to make sure that everyone’s hair was just so and that big smiles were in place. Parents are going to be very pleased with the ever-so-cute photos of their children!

In Grade 1, our students are not waiting for all of the snow to melt. They are declaring that spring has come and are writing about it and learning all about daffodils. Positive thinking certainly can’t hurt!

The students in Grade 2 reported they have been learning all about nouns, verbs and adjectives. They are then using these in their writing. The students also reported they are learning how to play volleyball, hockey, basketball and soccer in their P.E. classes. Those are busy classes for sure!

Our students in Grade 3 were pleased to send off a big envelope of letters and well wishes to the Humboldt Broncos hockey team. The tragedy continues to be on everyone’s minds in one way or another.

On a brighter note, the Grade 3 students reported they are having a great time learning how to play badminton.

The Grade 4 students informed me they have been busy learning to quickly recall basic facts. In Science, they have built simple magnifiers. And in L.A., they have been researching and writing about famous people.

Our Grade 5 students are always doing interesting things. In music, they are learning how to use boomwhackers. It will be fascinating to see what kind of music is made!

Students in Grade 6 are very much looking forward to hosting the hand games tournament on Friday, April 27. Joussard School had a pretty strong team last year and are hoping to do well this year, too.

We are all looking forward to our Talent Show on Monday, April 23. There has been lots of practice, so we should have some pretty good performances.

That’s it for this week, please check in with me next week.

Olivia Bellerose has found spring! There is no denying that spring has arrived when you discover definite evidence such as a caterpillar. Poor thing is likely a bit chilly!

Kindergarten teacher, Hannah Madill makes sure every student is pretty or handsome for their grad pictures. Little lady, Storm Shirt, is fixed up in preparation for her photo shoot.

Alberta’s recall legislation was introduced as a way to hold politicians to account and make ordinary voters the “boss” in provincial democracy.
