HPE Reporters
Hi! This is Diesel Willier from Grade 5C and Melissa Watts from Grade 5S with the HPE news report.
Grade 1S has been doing some amazing art for fall and Halloween.
Starting Oct. 17, we will be hosting a Cultural Club during lunch recess every Monday. This is open to all grades and voluntary for our students.
We have Elder Dharlyne Vicklund from the High Prairie Native Friendship Centre coming in to facilitate our activity.
If you have any questions about this club, please contact Lindsay Stewart, FNIM success coach, at [780] 523-4531 or [780] 291-0041. Thank you.
Grade 2L has been working on how to write good letters to a class in the United Kingdom.
HPE is excited to have two fine arts exhibitions coming to the school this year. Thanks to the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, and Alberta Society of Artists, we are now showing the work of Reinhold Pinder in October.
Pinder grew up in Calgary and has used wind as inspiration for all of the paintings on display. Some of the works are about nature’s battle with wind, like tornadoes and dust devils, while others have to do with the movement of air as we breathe and speak.
The Grade 4 classes enjoyed a presentation from Kaylyn Jackson, watershed co-ordinator, from the Lesser Slave Watershed Council about waste water and the importance about keeping our water clean. They are looking forward to a presentation about landfills on Oct. 19 as well.
The Grade 5 students are busy learning the poem In Flanders Fields. In Music and Fine Arts, the students are learning to sing the wonderful poem. They are practicing lots for our Remembrance Day Assembly on Nov. 8.
We have had a very exciting week in Grade 2/3 CL, but our favourite activity was planting tulip bulbs with Mayor Linda Cox, who is a member of the High Prairie Community Beautification Association, the seniors and some other wonderful helpers.
We planted lots of red and white bulbs and in the spring they will flower into the shape of a Canadian flag.
Mayor Cox told us the story of how tulips were a gift to Canada from the people of the Netherlands after the Second World War. We learned about tulip bulbs growth in class with our teacher, Natalie Cole-Lamothe.
We were so happy to have this chance to share in planting the “Celebration Garden” for the Canadian 150-year anniversary. It will be really exciting to go back in the spring when the flowers have bloomed!
Students who have not had breakfast are welcome to come to room 128A between 8:20-8:45 a.m. for something to eat. This program is funded through a grant from the Breakfast for Learning Foundation and school fundraising efforts. Community volunteers are needed to help with this program serving food and supervising students. Please contact the school if you can help out during the 8:20-8:45 time period. Thank-you.
That’s it for this week’s news. Look for our report next week to see what is happening at HPE!
