Scorpion Taekwondo Club of High Prairie celebrated another season with several students moving up in belts on April 17.

“The large number of black belts and coloured belts that continue to advance each year, speak well to the health and vitality of the club,” says Melissa Isaac, lead instructor of the club and founder.

“Black belts are looking forward to promotions and competitions each season.”

Reece Pratt tested for her 2nd Dan Black Belt and Amira Sharkawi tested for her 1st Poome Junior Black Belt.

Ken Janzen will soon test for his 1st Dan Black Belt and Davin Degner will test for his 1st Poome Black Belt.

Isaac will be testing for her 5th Dan [Master] Black Belt this spring. If she succeeds, she will become the second or third female member of the Taekwondo Alliance of Alberta to obtain the honour of Master status.

Scorpion students look forward to two more competitions before the season concludes April 23 at the Alberta Open in Edmonton.

Some of the black belts may have the opportunity to compete at the Canadian finals in Calgary from May 12-15.
