This writer is foggy on the exact details, but readers might recall: Was it last year or the year before, there were hardly any thunderstorms? You know, knock down, fear-of-God, scare the bejeepers out of the pets lightning flashes cracking and blasting types of storms? There was indeed a summer, just recent, where it seemed there was hardly anything.
The reason we mention this is because, this summer, what started out as a bone-dry, parched earth type of spring, has turned into a good heavens, rain again? type of summer. With, you guessed it, lots and lots of lightning and thunder.
Keep in mind: We asked for it!

Most people are shocked and saddened by the police shootings in our neighbour country to the south.
We have to side with the police lady who said to her fellow officers, more or less, “If you put on a uniform and think that gives you the right to do these things, how dare you. How dare you pretend to be part of all the good and decent people who are police in America, trying to do a good job.”
Yup. A few bad apples sure make it hard for all the rest to stand tall.

On sort of the same subject, American President Barack Obama sure turned into a lame duck boss of the most powerful country on earth.
Coming this November, when a new president is elected, it will be eight years of Obama rule. So much hope. So much promise. So little accomplished. What a terrible, terrible disappointment.

And now we have to watch a gong show election between a proven liar and conniver, Hilary Clinton, and a proven crook and liar, Donald Trump.
The state of affairs in politics in the United States continues to sink to ever lower lows.
But it certainly makes for good news reporting!

Almost as good in fact, as a guy named Steven Hirsch saying he will pay $25 million, in U.S. dollars no less, for a worthwhile sex tape if it stars Kim Kardashian and her husband, Kanye West.
Hirsch says the right tape will make tonnes of money!
Presumably sold to hundreds, perhaps thousands, perhaps millions of salacious viewers slathering and drooling for the latest news about their celebrities!
Come to think about it, if this is what turns the crank of the average American, are we really surprised they would elect either Clinton or Trump to be their leader?
We shouldn’t be.
Check this week’s editorial for more on this.

Once again, we are passing through the perfect time of the year – that time when canola crops are in full bloom and make for fantastic photo opportunities.
Bonus this year – try to catch a field with a rainbow behind it.

Back on the local radar is Tim Hortons in High Prairie.
The last word this writer got was Timmies was looking at High Prairie for a construction start in 2017. Now there are rumours building might start later this summer.
So the question has to be, is this spring’s rumour just coming around again? Or is it a new, new rumour that has some legs? Stay tuned.

Have a great week!
