Just a few more days and High Prairie’s big show of the year gets underway!
This is, of course, the High Prairie Elks Professional Rodeo, coming next week on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 1-2.
Weather forecasts this year are all over the map. No two forecasts from different sources are the same. So we don’t have much expectations what the rodeo weather will be like a week or less from now, when we don’t have much faith in what is forecast two days into the future.
But, just for the record, it’s supposed to be sunny and warm.
This is good news for rodeo entrants, and also for both parade entrants and parade watchers. If you haven’t already made your plans for a float, it still isn’t too late.
Entry fees for the parade are just $10. Every entrant will get a High Prairie sesquicentennial flag.
Also, while not mandatory, parade entrants are encouraged to have a “Canadiana historical theme” in keeping with Canada’s 150th anniversary.
See you there!

We always like to call the month of June our local “monsoon season” because of all the rain we get.
Interestingly, according to myweather2.ca [a reliable Internet site, of course!] July is actually a wetter month.
Or at least, sort of. July has 16 days of rain or drizzle usually, while June “only” has 15 days. July has an extra day so this kind of seems like a dead even deal.
Ah, but more research shows that July has 58 mm of rain average [which is about 21 inches] and June “only” has 57 mm.
Once again, July has an extra day. Calculate that out and it shows that on a per day basis, June is actually a wetter month. July in total, but June wetter.
So basically, the monsoon season still stands, even if July is soggy as all get out!
Just for information sake, August gets 45 mm of rain average, September 42, October 30 mm.

It might be official. Judging from the landslide vote that happened last week to join the Progressive Conservative Party of Alberta with the Wild Rose Party, it seems obvious the new name should be Rosey Conservatives.
Yup, we is just one big happy family!
The numbers show that about 95 per cent of the members voting from either party were in favour of holding hands, singing Kumbaya, roasting marshmallows, and becoming the dearest of buddies. Yes, sir!
Next on the agenda is picking a leader. That will happen in late October. Both Brian Jean, of the party formerly known as Wild Rose, and Jason Kenney of Conservative fame, say they will be running.
And there could be more!
So, as even party members say, the dancing will soon end and the knives will come out.

One more time, Elks Parade in High Prairie. Cowboy up!

I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car!

What’s the difference between in-laws and outlaws?
Outlaws are wanted!

A staunch Alberta PC member is on his deathbed. Suddenly, he announces he is switching to be a Liberal.
“I can’t believe you’re doing this!” said his friend. “Why?”
“Because I’d rather have a Liberal die before one of us!”

Have a great week!
