Never pass up an easy opportunity!
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith sure didn’t Nov. 20 when a byelection was announced for Lethbridge-West. Smith and the United Conservative Party took full advantage to praise a current MLA and dump all over the NDP. Surprise, surprise!
Here’s what Smith had to say.
“We’re proud of the work that UCP MLA Nathan Neudorf (Lethbridge-East) has done for the people of Lethbridge-West since this seat was left vacant by the NDP on July 1, 2023,” she wrote.
Then the shots were fired.
“We had been waiting to call this byelection with the expectation that the NDP leader would also be seeking a seat in the Legislature this fall. Having two byelections at once would save Alberta taxpayers resources and would hopefully support a higher voter turnout in both ridings due to the buzz it would generate. Unfortunately, he has still not made any indication that he plans to seek a seat and given it has been 151 days, apparently has no desire to sit in the Legislature.”
Wow! That’s a lot of shots in so few words. There was a lot more but I will spare you.
The Page finds these news releases interesting. Not once did Smith mention the name of the NDP Leader, Naheed Nenshi. It is not a mistake. Never give the public a reason to mention an actual name if you are the opposing political party.
The Page read an interesting article last week that said the Alberta government is not responsible for any funding to local municipalities.
What? It means that there is no legal requirement for funding to help builds roads, water plants, etc.
Think about it. If the government did not collect personal and business tax to fund these projects how much lower would taxes be?
In a utopian world, some argue that if any town or city wants services, they should darn well pay for it themselves. In essence, why should someone in Medicine Hat pay for a project in Peace River?
If this was true, the reality is smaller communities may as well roll up the sidewalks and shut off the streetlights because none could afford to operate unless, of course, each municipality could directly tax businesses and generate revenue the Alberta government already takes.
Must be a federal election coming!
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Nov. 21 that the federal GST will be scrapped on Christmas trees, children’s toys and restaurant meals, and that Canucks earning up to $150,000 will be receiving $250 cheques next year, most likely in the spring.
What a guy, that Justin! Trying to save his political bacon, perhaps?
“…we’re there to help,” says Canada’s boss.
A long list of Trudeau’s policies prompted the need for a little extra cash. No mention of that in his announcement, however. What a surprise!
The Page is already making plans to spend his dough. Using it to pay the extra carbon tax is high on the list.
There is an old saying, “The Lord Giveth and the Lord taketh away.” Now we can say, “Justin Trudeau giveth to the people but soon taketh away!”
A man was in the bar telling his buddy he was getting a divorce.
“What happened?” asked his friend.
“My wife wasn’t home the entire night and in the morning she said she spent the night at her sister’s house.”
“So what?” said his friend.
“She was lying,” said the married man. “I spent the night at her sister’s house!”
How do you know when a marriage isn’t going well?
In the first year, the man speaks and woman listens.
In the second year, the woman speaks and the man listens.
In the third year, they both speak and the neighbours listen!
You know you are having a bad day if you are a bat and have diarrhea!
What is Social Security sex?
You get a little bit each month but not enough to live on!
Have a great week!
Stay warm!
