Thieves attempted to steal two safes from Kinuso Family Food Store without success early Aug. 13, Faust RCMP reports.

“A group of people rammed the corner of the store with a truck and tried to get the two safes out of the building,” Cpl. Alex MacDonald says.

“They weren’t able to get the safes out and they fled the scene before we got there.”

Police responded to the incident about 4:30 a.m., he says.

Thieves used a Ford pick-up truck stolen from Slave Lake in their attempt.

“They ditched the truck and burned it,” MacDonald says.

Nothing else was stolen in the incident, but electricity was knocked out it the damaged corner of the building.

“We’re still looking for suspects,” MacDonald says.

Anyone with information or tips is requested to phone Faust RCMP at (780) 355-3670 or CrimeStoppers at (1-800) 222-TIPS (8477).

Fundraising loophole tips scales for politicians in Alberta recall campaigns

Alberta’s recall legislation was introduced as a way to hold politicians to account and make ordinary voters the “boss” in provincial democracy. But a fundraising loophole appears to give politicians a major advantage over petitioners, raising questions about the practical viability of the direct democracy initiative. Alberta’s Recall Act allows for the removal of MLAs […] ...More
