A regional map with tourist destinations and a water-proof brochure rack have been added to the exterior wall of High Prairie Visitor Information Centre in the High Prairie and District Museum.
The map was placed on the wall on Aug. 18 after it was completed by local artist Traci Hansen.
“Traci did a fabulous job to paint the map,” says Darlene Adams, executive director of the High Prairie District Museum ands Historical Society.
“It will be convenient for visitors when the museum is closed and gives them an idea what the region offers and where they are located.”
Funding of about $1,400 was granted to the society from the province’s Visitor Services Innovation Fund.
A waterproof brochure holder on the exterior provides further information on the region.
Now on fall operating hours, the museum and visitor information centre is currently open Wednesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and closed from noon to 1 p.m.
The local society was one of 18 visitor information centres that received funding for the program to help them develop new ways to connect with more travelers, says a news release from the provincial government.
“When tourists stop by and we’re not open, they can still get information,” Adams says.
“People want to know where campgrounds and other tourist destinations are located.”
Funding was announced as part of Tourism Week (May 28 to June 3), which promotes the importance of tourism in Alberta and its potential to help create jobs and diversify the economy.
