Town of High Prairie voters will get an opportunity to hear and question their candidates for mayor and council at a forum Oct. 3 at the Gordon Buchanan Recreation Centre.
Candidates will speak at the forum, hosted by the High Prairie and Area Chamber of Commerce from 7-9 p.m.
“The chamber is honoured to present a platform for the candidates to express their views and their agendas to the community,” president Jennifer Zatko says.
“We invite the public to come and bring their questions and concerns to the forum for answers.
“We look forward to the community pulling together to elect our leadership.”
Two candidates for mayor and nine candidates for six councillor seats will each get three minutes to present their opening speech.
Written questions will be collected during an intermission to allow organizers to formulate questions that will be asked to all candidates according to themes, topics and issues.
Each candidate will have one minute to respond.
Questions will be taken from the floor if time permits.
Incumbent mayor Linda Cox is being challenged by Brian Panasiuk, a councillor completing his first four-year term.
Candidates running for council include challengers Ross Burgar, Aaron Klassen, former councillor Barry Shar- kawi and Judy Stenhouse and incumbents Donna Deynaka, Brian Gilroy, Michael Long, Arlen Quartly and Debbie Rose.
About 140 people attended an all-candidates forum in 2013 when two candidates sought the mayor’s seat and 17 ran for six councillor spots.
The forum is limited to town council candidates only.
