Following is Town of High Prairie Mayor Linda Cox’s report for May 18 to June 7:
On May 18, I attended the Inter-municipal committee meeting to discuss joint concerns the town and county have in common. This committee builds good neighbour relations by open discussion on what each municipality is doing and any issues that are arising.
It was a short meeting as our discussions centred on an update on the airport, the regional water project that the county is proposing, and the capital projects that the town is proposing this year.
As per our Inter-municipal Agreement, the town will use the monies allocated by the county for infrastructure improvements that benefit both county and town residents.
This year we will be repaving 50th Street from Highway 2 to Jaycee Park as it is a main school bus corridor and, if the tenders are reasonable, an overlay of the U-street by the Roman Catholic Church will be done.
Joint meeting
On May 18 also, council attended the first joint council meeting of our two councils. This is the first time both complete councils have met formally and had a chance to interact with their counterparts. It was held at the County administration office and all agreed this should occur at least semi-annually.
Again, it was apparent that both councils represent ratepayers with the same concerns and knowing the relationship between the two organizations is good enhances our ability to respond to joint issues.
Recreation board meets
On May 24, I attended the High Prairie and District Regional Recreation Board meeting to discuss the 2015 audit.
The auditors have completed the audit and find no discrepancies. Those wishing a copy of the 2015 Financial Statements can contact the recreation office.
