Undefeated Saints roll past Warriors

The St. Andrew’s Saints girl’s basketball team continues to do what they’ve done all season, whether it’s tournament, league or exhibition games.

Win!

The Saints defeated the Atikameg Warriors 58-17 in exhibition play on their home court Feb. 14. The result was not surprising seeing the Saints appear to be the class of the Smoky River Junior High School Basketball League this season, while the Warriors formed a team late this fall and have just started competing.

The Saints enjoyed quarter leads of 18-5, 29-10 and 44-15 as the short-handed Warriors tired as the game proceeded.

The game also provided a chance for the Saints to empty their bench and give all players court time. It showed as 12 different Saints recorded points. Abbie Cottingham and Finn Marko each netted 10 points in the contest, while Madison Price added nine and Macey Shaw seven. Georgia Boerchers and Daisy Porisky scored four points, Jessica Gordon and Elle MacIntosh three, and Ella Deering, Brooke Gauchier, Kendyl Backs and Heidi Porisky two each.

Vikki Grey scored 15 points for the Warriors, which was also a game high. Keisha Laboucan added the other two points in the third quarter.

The Saints head into the Smoky River championship tournament in High Prairie Feb. 23-24 with the league’s best record as 7-0. They are the only undefeated team in the league in both girl’s and boy’s play.
