Pastor Keith Williams,
High Prairie Bethel Baptist Church
Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Maria Ramirez said, “There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend. Those with a rope around the neck and the people who have the job of doing the cutting.”
For all that was wrong with that movie [The Good, the Bad and the Ugly] Tuco did have one thing right. There are only two kinds of people in the world, my friend, but they have nothing to do with ropes or spurs. Those who are in Adam and those who are in Christ.
Regardless of the huge differences in culture and ethnicity, philosophy, ethics, religion and morals, and however else humanity can be divided, everyone is either under the curse that fell on Adam or forgiven and accepted by God through Christ.
It comes down to two men and how the disobedience of one makes many sinners” and the obedience of the other makes many “righteous.” [Romans 5:19]
This is how the Bible, and Paul in particular, describes “all” humanity. [Romans 5:12, 18-19; 1 Corinthians 15:21-22]
Adam sinned and in so doing passed on that sin to all mankind every human that was ever born is guilty of being a sinner: everyone.
There is no one righteous, not one. Adam’s sin was imputed to you and to me.
Now when Christ came to take away the sin of the world [Think Christmas, the true meaning], those who call on the name of Christ for the forgiveness of their sins and trust in Him only for forgiveness are indeed forgiven and Christ’s righteousness was given imputed to us. Our sin is imputed to Christ. To the One, the only One, who can and did pay the full price for our sin.
Edward Fisher, speaking through the voice of Evangelista, rightly said that the apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 15:47 speaks of Adam and Christ “as if there never had been any more men in the world besides these two; thereby making them head and root of all mankind, they having, as it were, the rest of the sons of men included in them.”
So let me misquote Tuco. “There are two kinds of people in the world, my friend. Those who are in Christ and those who in Adam.”
