The trial involving a High Prairie woman was adjourned until November in Peace River Court of Kings Bench July 27.

The presiding judge adjourned the matter of Kyra Renee Backs, charged with second-degree-murder in connection with the Oct. 6, 2022 death of a seven-month-old baby, while the Crown tenders medical evidence.

It means the matter will not be settled over four years after the incident.

The identity of the baby and all witnesses at the trial are protected by a publication ban.

Backs operated a day home in High Prairie at the time of the incident.

The trial is expected to continue in either Edmonton or Peace River.
